Portfolio by Kanye West (1995) | Antiques Roadshows
The American version of Antiques Roadshow recently presented a portfolio of drawings by the rapper Kanye West, executed when he was 17 years old. In addition to fashion and music, now we discover yet another hidden talent of the businessman known for his masquerades and shock projects. This series of drawings and paintings were done by the rapper when he was 17 in 1995, and are rather astonishing in their quality. It comes as no surprise to find out that Kanye had been drawing since he was very young and had been offered a scholarship, also at the age of 17, for the American Academy of Art in Chicago.
This portfolio, made up various pieces includes two drawings done with lead pencil and several gouache paintings, has been valued between $16,000 and $23,000 per piece by the TV show presenter Laura Woolley, who considers these creations to be “exceptionally well done”. Having belonged to the rapper's cousin's husband, the drawings were said to have been inherited when Kanye's mother, Donda West passed away.
