December 4th, 2019: the world of contemporary art causes rivers of ink to flow. The topic? A plain banana taped up the Gallery Perrotin stand at the Art Basel Miami Beach fair. Designed by Maurizio Cattelan and sold in triplicate ($120,000 each), this artwork titled “Comedian” caused a scandal due to its triviality and expensive prize. However, at the time of social media hype, the work became a ridiculed meme that inspires the wildest artefacts. Created in order to gather all these initiatives, the Instagram account “cattelanbanana” has more than 18,000 followers today.
