“In The Mood For Love” - Wong Kar-Wai
In the year 2000, the Cannes Film Festival rewarded the Hong Kong director’s masterpiece with the Prix Vulcain for cinematographer Christopher Doyle’s penetrating light and William Chang’s sets and costumes. This time, the film will be shown on the Croisette among the Cannes Classics films and then released in theatres on July 8th in France in its newly restored version.
This anniversary is timely for for Wong Kar-Wai who, already last year, stated that he wanted to see his entire filmography re-released in 4k. After the restauration of his masterpiece, viewers will once again be able to delight in the illicit affiar between Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, set to the haunting sounds of Yumeji’s Theme by Shigeru Umebayaski
Between captivating sets and stolen glances, In the Mood for Love is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful love stories to grace the big screen. In second place on the BBC’s top 100 best films of the 20th century, this timeless movie continues to charm the crowds.
