The bewitching "In the Mood for Love" returns to the Croisette

Wong Kar-Wai's stunning film is celebrating its 20th anniversary. For the occasion, the Cannes Film Festival is honouring it with a special screening on the Croisette, in a restored 4k version. The film’s distributors, The Jokers, have also just announced that it will be re-released this summer in French cinemas.

“In The Mood For Love” - Wong Kar-Wai

In the year 2000, the Cannes Film Festival rewarded the Hong Kong director’s masterpiece with the Prix Vulcain for cinematographer Christopher Doyle’s penetrating light and William Chang’s sets and costumes. So it makes perfect sense that the best known film festival in the world celebrates In the Mood for Love once again, twenty years later. This time, the film will be shown on the Croisette among the Cannes Classics films and then released in theatres on July 8th in France in its newly restored version.

This anniversary is timely for for Wong Kar-Wai who, already last year, stated that he wanted to see his entire filmography re-released in 4k. After the restauration of his masterpiece, viewers will once again be able to delight in the illicit affiar between Tony Leung and Maggie Cheung, set to the haunting sounds of Yumeji’s Theme by Shigeru Umebayaski

Between captivating sets and stolen glances, In the Mood for Love is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful love stories to grace the big screen. In second place on the BBC’s top 100 best films of the 20th century, this timeless movie continues to charm the crowds.
