Having learnt under the best eye in the business, photographer Annie Leibovitz, and made music video for pretty much the entire world - Beyoncé, Lenny Kravitz, Jay-Z ou Norah Jones, to name but a few - Philip Andelman has recently unveiled another of his passions, baking cakes, with the opening of his first boutique. Already celebrated for his cookies, sold at Maison Plisson and Colette, he’s busy increasing his repertoire in partnership with Cassie, the Californian patisserie chef known for his work at restaurants like Verjus and No glu. He’s used his Hudson River home address as the name, the view from his living room as the logo and called upon architect Charles-Edmond Henry to sort out the décor. In the charming cobbled streets of the Montorgueil neighbourhood with retro lighting, the canary yellow and pale blue walls display a list of his fetish cookies, from classic choc chip and peanut butter and jelly to the more unusual caramelised bacon and dark chocolate. On the colourful counters sits an all-American apple pie, the addictive salted butter crème caramel pie and a sweet potato version ready for take-outs all day long. Glorious too are the series of famous American cakes and biscuits - Ding Dongs, S’Mores, Twinkies, and Oreos - reinvented here using only the very best ingredients.
