Le clip “Reload” de M.I.A.
Directed by Steven Loveridge, the documentary Matangi/Maya/M.I.A. tells the story of the singer who left Sri Lanka for London in 1986 at the age of 11, fleeing the civil war with her mother, brother and sister. We thus discover the tumultuous journey of Maya Arulpragasam, alias M.I.A, but also a soundtrack that the artist is honouring today. Now she's releasing the ultra-no frills video for Reload, made in 2004 and filmed in a cellar belonging to Justine Frischmann, singer from the British band Elastica.
Originally the track was supposed to appear on Arular, M.I.A.’s first album. As for the video, it merrily plays the irony card: against an orange backdrop, surrounded by several dancers wearing oversized hoop earrings and vintage sunglasses, M.I.A. adopts bad girl poses aplenty.
