Sarai Mari is a fashion photographer whose favourite theme is gender. Inspired by Helmut Newton (and his sexual representation of femininity) she questions the roles played by men and women in a society she sees as governed by categories and labels. After her first album of photos “Naked” dedicated to the female nude, the Japanese artist is back with “Speak Easy”, an ode to the erotic aesthetic. Her models are a mix of anonymous faces and famous folk including the models Janice Dickinson, Clara Paget and Hikari Mori. This second work will be the focus on an exhibition between March 30th and April 15th 2017 at the hpgrp gallery in New York.
