Last night at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the British Fashion Council rewarded the biggest talents in fashion for the year 2019. And while the 2018 awards didn’t surprise anyone with prizes for big brands such as Balenciaga, Gucci, Prada, Givenchy and Off-White, this year’s event has given much more space to new names as the decade concludes in style.
Thus Daniel Lee, this season’s hot favourite who started at the helm of Bottega Venetta in 2018, was awarded four prizes: "Brand of the year” “British Designer of the Year Womenswear” “Designer of the Year” and “Accessories Designer of the Year”. A consecration that clearly attests to the remarkable work achieved by the young Brit at the Italian house.
Rewarded with the prize for “British Emerging Talent Menswear”, designer Bethany Williams, a finalist for the 2018 LVMH prize stood out for her ecologically and socially aware approach that favours craftsmanship and well-thought out production.
Another big winner, Remo Ruffini, CEO of the Moncler label and the brains behind its Genius project – which consists of surrounding himself with a multitude of designers from very different backgrounds who each create an annual capsule collection – was justly rewarded with the prize for “Business Leader”.
And finally Rihanna, now the only singer in the world accoladed as a fashion designer, won the “Urban Luxe” category for her Fenty label launched with LVMH.
