Avant de dévoiler sa liste des 100 meilleurs albums de l’histoire, Apple Music prévient : “Cette liste est un parti pris éditorial, elle est totalement indépendante des chiffres de streaming sur Apple Music, il s’agit d’une lettre d'amour aux albums qui ont façonné la musique.” Évidemment, tout le monde attendait le top 10 avec impatience. Pour célébrer l'événement, Zane Lowe et Ebro Darden d'Apple Music se sont retrouvés autour d’une table avec le producteur légendaire Nile Rodgers et l'artiste et productrice Maggie Rogers, nommée aux Grammy Awards, pour partager leurs réflexions sur ce classement lors d'une table ronde diffusée en vidéo sur la chaîne de la plateforme.
L’album qui se glisse en tête du classement est The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill, le premier – et unique – album studio solo de Lauryn Hill sorti en 1998. Après avoir appris la nouvelle, la musicienne a déclaré à Apple Music : “C'est ma récompense, mais c'est une histoire riche et profonde, qui implique tant de personnes, tant de sacrifices, tant de temps et tant d'amour collectif.”
